Exclusive: Unknown.....Uncut
An Un-censored Conversation
with Unknown Hinson
by Jason
A. Barker
"My chart-toppin' teeth and gums
do bleed from time to time and git infected. But I have found that
Party Liquor is a damn good Anti-septic."
Warning: The following presentation contains adult language and mature subject content. If you are offended, then get the hell on!
"I'm the KING OF COUNTRY WESTERN TROUBADOURS. I'm ever womern's dream and ever jealous husband's nightmare, and I don't take no mess," bellowed the cranky voice at the other end of the telephone. It was a Sunday afternoon in North Carolina.....the Lord's day. That alone would be reason enough to worry about disturbing the man known as Unknown Hinson. After all, the King is a religious man. All one has to do is look into his eyes to see it. If he wasn't in church, he'd most certainly be sleeping in during the day and getting a well-deserved rest from the demands of his busy schedule. Aside from the fact that he has been charged with vampirism in his past.....an accusation he vehemently denies.....Unknown Hinson isn't exactly fond of most people's waking hours. He is first and foremost a musician. We all know about musicians and the hours they keep.
Despite the circumstances, Hinson graciously agreed to share an extensive and unadulterated look at his life and music, exclusively for Steelbender.com. While discussing a variety of topics with him, it was reinforced to me that Unknown Hinson is a man in command. There wasn't an issue we talked about that he didn't have a firm grasp on. I expected nothing less. Occasionally, my questions elicited some tense responses and even repeated threats to end the interview prematurely. After I assured to him off-tape that this wasn't some sort of antagonistic Barbara Walters-style inquisition (she's something that rhymes with "door" by the way), Unknown settled down and candidly talked about everything from his family to his favorite party liquor. In short, he answered the questions that I've always had as a longtime fan and ardent admirer of his work. He went the extra mile to give our readers insights into the things that other interviewers have been afraid to ask. And believe me, they should be afraid.
When all is said and done, Unknown Hinson should
be recognized as one of the finest talents in the music industry today.
Unfortunately though, no matter that he's recorded numerous hit records
and won over countless "womerns" with his show-stoppin' looks and awe-inspiring
guitar pickin' and singin', Unknown Hinson still remains unknown
to a good portion of the general public. With that in mind, I've
made it a personal mission for the better part of a decade to spread the
gospel about this truly unique individual and his "God-fearin' country
western music phenomenon." As a tribute to the man who proudly
exclaims that he's got "chart-toppers to burn", I offer this heartfelt
presentation and dutifully swear my allegiance to the King of Country Western
Troubadours. I know what would happen if I didn't.

"Fortunately I have the luxury
of playin' high-dollar guit-tars these days, and I prefer Gibson guit-tars."
"I use them VOX amplifiers.
Yeah, yeah, they sound gooder 'n Hell!"
"Womerns likes what I do.
James Bond, eat ye damn heart out!"
"The only other profession I would
like to attempt is that of a Ventriloquist. I love a damn good puppet
show, don't you?"
"The guit-tar ain't nothin' but
a hammer or a screwdriver to me. It's just a tool I use to build
somethin' with, or tear somethin' down with. Here I am gettin' ready
to smash one."
"I make faces when I make
love, and occasionally I make faces at my audience. Yeah, yeah, It
drives the womerns wild!"
See you in church.
"Here's a picture of me with a
group of young hippie dopers that refused to admit that I influenced their
sound."
